The top 3 hotels in Chicago

Christened as the “Windy City”, Chicago is on the banks of Lake Michigan and is the third biggest city in the United States. Although there are various theories that explain this nickname, one of the most popular explains that the city is often affected by strong winds coming from Lake Michigan.

Another curious fact about Chicago is that the world’s first skyscraper was built there. It was built between 1884 and 1885 and was called the ¨Home Insurance Building¨. Although, nowadays, this building is not recognised as a skyscraper because it only has ten floors, it was revolutionary in its time.

US Health Care System: What’s Good to Know

The United States of America is one of the most popular tourist destinations on the planet. Whether you are traveling for business or tourism, millions of visitors come to the United States each year for stays ranging from one week to a few months. If we can say with certainty that the visitor will find a welcoming country upon arrival, it is necessary that he inquire about certain aspects of everyday life in the United States which may be very different from his country of origin, origin.

One of them is certainly the national health system. This fact is recognized as one of the best in the world, with absolute points of medical excellence. But unlike many countries in the rest of the world, the burden of medical care costs falls on the citizen / patient. In other words, the majority of US citizens take out medical insurance to protect themselves in case of medical treatment. If the income is below the poverty line, the federal government intervenes to help the citizen to subscribe to this insurance policy.

Considering the above, it is clear that the foreign visitor are not covered by the US national health system. Hence the need to seek medical care while you are in the United States can result in a very expensive bill. While in fact it is possible to receive medical care at a hospital without medical insurance, the costs associated with these treatments are entirely to the patient.
What To Do In Case of Medical Emergency?

In general, in case of need for medical care, you have several options, all related to the severity of the problem. If the problem is not actually very urgent, it is best to call the hospital and ask for a specific doctor’s recommendation for your problem. A visit to a doctor is cheaper than the one in the emergency room.

The second option is to contact private health centers, which are cheaper than in a hospital. However, it is important to remember that these tend to perform a series of tests on the patient that can increase the final cost. Even in cases of minor medical necessity. Always pay attention to the proposed exams, not all are necessary for you in specific circumstances, use your common sense.

In an emergency, the best thing is surely that you contact the nearest hospital and see a doctor in the emergency room.
It is advisable to be covered by health insurance

As noted above, the United States has a health care system where the patient pays for medical care. US citizens protect themselves with medical insurance, why not do it yourself as a visitor?

Insurance companies generally exist to protect and save. If you suffer from an ankle sprain, or are suffering from dysentery abroad, insurance can help you and not leave you alone. Especially when your medical bill arrives, you will not want to be alone. It is therefore very useful to consider a policy that is most appropriate for your trip. In addition to the medical coverage also many insurance include theft or loss of luggage, delays and cancellations of flights, repatriation for reasons of force majeure, etc.

How to evaluate and choose insurance?

Some terms and conditions of the contract will guide you through the assessment and selection of the most appropriate coverage for you. We suggest you consider:

• Maximum expenditure covered by insurance. It is recommended that this threshold be higher than € 500 000.
• If the medical expenses are considerable, it is recommended that the policy provide for the payment of these expenses directly to the hospital. We do not recommend the refund option after you have paid.
• Pay attention to the deductible. The lower part is the payment that will be yours in the event of an accident.
• We suggest that you always choose to cover the cost of repatriation in case of emergency (natural disasters, unexpected wars, terrorist attacks, etc.)
• Choose coverage for ambulance transportation.
• Ensure that the emergency phone number is always active and reliable.
• Monitor and evaluate incidental coverage such as loss or theft of luggage, insurance in case you rent a car, etc.

Finally, if your trip involves high-risk excursions or sports activities (activities in the snow, mountain hikes, parachute, rafting, etc.), make sure you are covered even in c

Are you planning to visit the United States? Here are 11 tips for your trip.

Preparations for a trip to the United States can be very exciting! It is useful to familiarize yourself with certain local customs. The following tips will make you discover some very common American habit that may not be familiar to all visitors, especially beginners.

The United States is among the favorite destinations of visitors from all corners of the planet. Last year, more than 65 million people visited the country. American culture is known throughout the world thanks to its industries of cinema, television and music. Some common American habits, however, are very different from what we know, and especially from what we are accustomed to in our country of origin.

1. Make sure you get an ESTA

Most visitors can enter the United States with an electronic travel authorization. If you are planning a trip of less than 90 days, whether it is a leisure trip, a business trip or a simple transit trip, an official visa is not required if your country of citizenship is included in the program of travel, Exemption from visa requirements.

The procedure costs $ 74.00, payable by credit card or Paypal, and is entirely done online.

Although it is generally advisable to make your request 3 days before your departure, we suggest you to ask for your ESTA before booking your flight and / or your hotel.

An ESTA is valid for 2 years from the date of issue and allows multiple entries. ESTA simplifies your travel and paperwork when you arrive in the United States.

2. Your final bill is higher than the posted price

American prices of goods and food are on average all Made reasonable. Especially when compared with those in the euro area. One of the things that might surprise you is that the price you see on labels and menus is not the final price you will have to pay. The price generally does not include sales taxes (on average 7%, varies according to the states). In many restaurants, you will not only have to consider the sales tax, but also a minimum of 15% for gratuities.

3. Humor is not appreciated at airport security check

While a joke may seem like a good way to alleviate tension during your airport security check, you are likely to get very serious problems. The security guards at the airport are courteous but take their duties very seriously. Any threatening joke or suspicious attitude can lead to an in-depth security check.

Never refer to a bomb, a weapon, or anything dangerous. Never, even in a sarcastic tone.

For an easy security check, we recommend that you keep your humor to yourself and respond simply and frankly to any questions you may be asked by a security or immigration officer.

For more information on security checking when you arrive in the US, see this section.

4. Have some cash available for tips

We know how frustrating it can be to have to give dollar bills to the taxi driver rather than the concierge of the hotel. But as the saying goes, in Rome do as the Romans do! This is also true in the United States. Many service industry workers rely on tipping for most of their income, and so it is standard for any service provider. Many restaurants, especially in tourist centers, automatically add up to 18% tip to the bill. Warnings are often found at the bottom of a restaurant’s menu, so be sure to check! Included tip is also displayed on your bill. If the service is exceptional, it is sometimes advisable to add an extra tip to the one already included, but it is not mandatory.

Even though in the United States the most common way to pay is by credit card (even for reduced amounts), to say “thank you” with a small tip we suggest you have some dollar bills within range Of hand.

Will the visa waiver program change under Trump?

There has been a lot of talk about Donald Trump’s immigration policy ever since his election in 2016. The event itself surprised many, but if you happen to hold a document allowing you to travel to the USA or you plan to visit the country in the near future, you might be wondering what that means in practical terms and how it can affect your future trips. An unclearly worded tweet posted by a White House correspondent in January 2017 raised an avalanche of concerns and questions. The tweet stated that the newly elected US President was preparing to discontinue the Visa Waiver Program as a part of his attempt to reinforce national borders.

But don’t worry

The Visa Waiver Program (VWP), which admits citizens from 38 countries, including those from the UK, hasn’t changed.  Under that program, which is designed to facilitate trips between many European countries and the US, eligible citizens can make a short-term visit to the States without having to request a visa.  Holders of a valid British passport currently only need to fill out an online application, known as ESTA. ESTA, short for Electronic System for Travel Authorization, collects and pre-screens the data of prospective travelers from low-risk countries who wish to stay on American soil less than 90 days for the purpose of tourism and, with some restrictions, business as well. The system is fully automated and does not require applicants to sit face-to-face with an officer from the US embassy to receive a stamp of approval. It is also highly efficient and provides an answer within 72 hours maximum, most often within minutes. Whether you plan to get an ESTA online or have already received an approved one and wish to use it again, rest assured that the conditions remain the same.

Has anything changed then?

Yes. After the initial confusion, the tweet in question was edited to clarify and emphasize that “Trump’s order suspends the U.S. visa INTERVIEW waiver program (not the whole program) …” There were two main features of the VWP: 1. it allows eligible citizens to visit the US with a simple travel authorization and without having to obtain a visa and 2. the right of those who already hold a nonimmigrant visa to renew it without having to go through a personal interview.  This second possibility has now been revoked. The current change of policy of the VWP aims to strengthen security by requiring “that all individuals seeking a nonimmigrant visa undergo an in-person interview.” So whereas previously visa-holders from VWP countries could be excused from making the trip to the local US embassy before obtaining the same type of visa, now there is no way around it.  Of course, if it suits your situation and you’re pressed for time, you can always request an ESTA online to simplify the process and avoid paperwork.

Since its implementation in 2009 the VWP program has been adapting to the need for higher security in the ever-changing climate of international travel.  In 2014 the ESTA online form was updated with an additional section of questions and in 2015, immediately after the Paris attacks, then President Barack Obama enhanced the system by improving its analytical tools and enlarging the number of databases against which visa-free travelers’ information is cross-checked.  We will keep you posted as travel to the US continues to evolve.

The new ESTA online form

For new applications or renewals

If I have already obtained an ESTA permit, do I need to apply for an updated license with the new online form?

Due to recent events in the world, such as the Ebola epidemic or the increase in terrorist threats in the Middle East, US immigration authorities have added a new online form for the ‘ESTA. This new form is required for new ESTA applications.

In fact, previously approved ESTA permits are valid until they expire.

When they perish, the traveler must apply for a new ESTA using the new online form.

So if you have a valid ESTA permit (granted for less than two years and associated with a valid passport) you can travel without worry in the US without any problems.

Esta-formulaire.us keeps you up-to-date on your trip to the US with useful and practical tips and answers your questions 24 hours a day if necessary.

Have a nice trip!

Do I need flight details and / or address to apply?

No! The ESTA application form does not request information on your flight details. In fact it is better to apply for your travel authorization before booking your flight and making other travel arrangements, so you have time to react in the unlikely event that there is a delay in processing your information. Besides, you can always add or modify your travel details, even after receiving an approved ESTA. Let’s say that you have found tickets at a better price or a better hotel offer. Or you want to change your itinerary and visit one more city. Also, an approved ESTA is valid for up to two years and for multiple trips. In case you want to profit from it more than once, you can either modify the point of contact at the United States or you can leave it untouched.

We will be happy to update this information for you, simply write us an e-mail via the contact form here.

Please note that if you need to change some of the information already existing in the ESTA Authorization do not hesitate to contact us on info@esta-formulaire.us. We will modify all details without additionally charging your credit card.

These include important data such as names, passport number, and date of birth. It is best to double and triple check these before you submit the online form to make sure that the details you have entered match letter for letter and number for number the details on your passport. A good old trick is to reread everything from right to left – that way our eyes do not run over the combinations of letters we are familiar with. If you notice even a typo on your issued document, do not hesitate to contact us on info@esta-formulaire.us. Our service support agent will modify the information needed without additionally charging your credit card. This is also the case if during the two year period of validity of the travel authorization any of the essential information about you changes. If you are issued a new passport, have a new or additional name or become a citizen of a different country as well as if any of the answers to the Visa Waiver Program requirements are different than first stated, please contact us! Remember, once a new travel authorization is issued, the old one will be canceled.

Make sure you respect the conditions for traveling on an ESTA each time you visit the USA – you can make multiple trips to the country and stay for up to 3 months each time, for a total of 180 days per year. However if while you’re in the USA you make a short trip to Mexico or Canada you do not get an additional 90 days. You can travel for tourism, independent research, negotiations. You can participate in professional conventions, conferences and seminars.  Commercial business is also fine, provided you do not intend to make profit on US soil. Disrespecting these rules can create unnecessary complications with the US Customs and Border Protection officer during a future trip.

Find an internship in the United States – Part 1

Many French students are looking for work in the USA, especially during the summer period.

It is now more complicated to secure a seasonal job – that is, a summer internship – especially since the application of new rules in recent years. All the more so as the American economic situation hampers hiring, especially when it comes to foreign labor.

In this new context, how to successfully find the right internship?

First, make sure you make the choice that’s right for you. Take the time to define what you want:

  • What kind of business do I want to integrate?

Belgium, like 38 other countries in the world, is part of the ESTA program. It is a new procedure, in force since 12 January 2009, which allows Belgium to dispense with visa United States. From now on, to get to the US, Belgian travelers have only to apply for a special USA visa: ESTA USA. This approach greatly simplifies the usual procedures of the classic United States visas. Indeed, the ESTA is an on-line form which includes a list of basic questions to which you must answer. You do not have to go to the US Embassy or Consulate after making an appointment. You do not have to wait a week or more for the usual issuance of visas for the US. A few minutes after filling in your ESTA form, you will know if US domestic security authorities allow you to fly to the United States.

The ESTA allows for more flexibility and responsiveness in organizing possible trips to the United States if you are coming from Belgium.

This hybrid formula, which could be called ESTA visa, has also helped to ease congestion in American embassies and consulates in the 38 countries covered by the program.

However, a biometric or electronic passport is required to apply for ESTA. If this is not the case, it is in your interest to have a new passport drawn up. This will be compulsory at a public service counter which has a biometric station. You will then be able to make an ESTA authorization request (also known as “ESTA Authorization”) via the internet.

Everything happens very simply because you will answer questions about your identity, your reasons for staying and whether you are traveling as a tourist or a professional. The duration of your stay is very important and must be specified. If it is more than 90 days, your ESTA application will not be validated because the ESTA only applies to trips of less than three months. Beyond that, you must go to the US Embassy or Consulate and apply for a B-1 or B-2 visa.

If you live in Belgium but you are of a different nationality from that of your host country, it is important to refer to the list set up by the US government. You will be able to see if your country of nationality is among the registered countries or not. If this is not the case, you must go through the US Embassy in your usual country and have a visa issued, whether your stay is short or long.

Internal security authorities have introduced this approach in order to strengthen controls on visitors entering the United States. Using this form, they can understand and clearly understand the motivations of people visiting the USA.

If you are certain of the duration of your stay, ie less than three months, you can apply only three days before taking off.

As soon as you arrive at the airport, you will have to go before the US Customs Service. It is they who will decide whether or not you will finally be able to circulate on the territory. You will need your ESTA validation and then the approval of the US Customs, once on the spot. The approach will be exactly the same as you cross the ocean by air or by boat.

If you go ahead a little, you will know immediately if you have the right to travel to the United States. However, avoid doing it too far ahead! Indeed, the ESTA is only valid for two years. This period allows you to make as many trips to the USA as you wish if they do not exceed three months. After these two years, you will have to make an ESTA application again via internet.

Therefore, it is best before you book any airline ticket or boat for the US, to make your ESTA application. When the ticket is validated, you can compare tickets and travel dates from Belgium to the USA in peace of mind!

Do not forget that if you are leaving Belgium for another country but with a stopover in the USA a few hours before your next flight, you must also Have an ESTA in your possession . This is mandatory, even for a very short passage on the ground of an American airport.

Finally, know that children, even very small ones, must have their own ESTA. If you
